Slick Autos started because we got tired of watching everyday cars get botched diagnostics from garages that couldn’t read the codes properly. Hatchbacks sent home with the wrong sensor fitted. Family estates on their third EGR in a year because nobody looked at the live data. Daily drivers condemned to a DPF replacement when a proper regen and a reprogrammed ECU would have sorted it.
The moment it crystallised came with a customer’s C63 AMG that had been through three garages in four weeks chasing an intermittent limp mode. Each one read the fault code, replaced the cheapest likely part, cleared the code, and sent the car away. It came back every time. When it finally landed on our bench, a proper XENTRY session with live logging found the real fault in under an hour — a failing boost pressure sensor with a drift pattern you could only catch under load. £120 part, one hour of labour, problem solved permanently. Same story we’d seen dozens of times on cheaper cars that nobody bothered to diagnose properly.
That was the argument for how the workshop should run. Whatever the badge on the bonnet — a C63, a Golf, a Focus, a Land Cruiser — invest in the tools the manufacturer uses, log the data, prove the cause, and fix it once. Performance tuning is something we also do, because we have the rolling road and the experience. But it’s not why the workshop exists. Diagnostic-led repair is.
We set up with one rule: the tools have to match the cars. That meant genuine Mercedes XENTRY, BMW ISTA, Porsche PIWIS and VW Group ODIS on day one — not aftermarket clones, not generic OBD readers. It’s the non-negotiable foundation of everything we do, and it’s the single biggest reason we can fix the faults that have defeated other workshops.

Every car that comes in gets a proper diagnostic scan before we touch anything. We log live data where the fault demands it. We read the control modules the manufacturer uses, with the software the manufacturer uses. Then we give you a written report and a fixed-price quote.
Only after you’ve seen that quote and agreed to it do we start work. There are no surprises on the final bill, no “we found a few other bits while we were in there”, and no guesswork parts fitted in hope.
We don’t do everything — and we’re clear about what we don’t do. We don’t delete DPFs or EGR valves on road cars. We don’t fit cheap pattern sensors. We don’t flash blind files from an anonymous tuning server. If that’s what you’re looking for, we’re not the right garage and we’ll tell you that on the phone before you drive over.
